The Fortress

The Fortress is about 50 minutes (estimated) away from downtown Boulder.

The Fortress on 119 south of Nederland

Located by: Kelley Crider

GPS Coordinates

  • Latitude: N/A
  • Longitude: N/A

This field is right off of county road 119 and easily accessible since there's no dirt roads to travel through. Parking is limited but there shouldn't be any problem aligning 15 cars and still clear the busy road (you can also park up the road at the campground and shuttle players if need be). The field is mostly flat except for the actual 'fortress' which is a very large rock formation towards the back of the field. This large formation has quite a lot of boulders and brush to hide behind. The tallest part of the formation is about 50 feet up from the base and so it's a good challenge for the invading team starting at the base. In the flatter areas there aren't as many boulders or brush so you'll be hiding behind pines for the most part.

From Boulder

  1. From Boulder take Canyon Blvd west into the Rockies to Nederland (about 20 mins).
  2. From Nederland take 119 South approximatelly 12 mi and look for Hwy 46 on the left (but do not turn into...stay on 119).
  3. After you've located Hwy 46, travel further south one mile on 119 and look to the right for a 'turn off' just after the guard rail. This turn off should be between the north and south entrances to the camp grounds. Note that the maps above only show the SOUTH entrance. (see map).
  4. This field is just after mile marker 12 and before marker 11 traveling south on 119.

From Golden

  1. From Golden take Hwy 46 (same as Hwy 70?) west to 119.
  2. At the intersection of Hwy 119 & Hwy 46 make a left and travel 1 mile South on 119. After one mile south on 119, look to the right for a 'turn off' just after the guard rail. This turn off should be between the north and south entrances to the camp grounds. Note that the maps above only show the SOUTH entrance. (see map).
